چکیده

GUAN X, WANG SL & ZHANG WD. 2016. Availability of N and P in the rhizosphere of three subtropical species. This study aimed to assess the variation in soil chemical properties in the rhizosphere soils between plantations of 25-year-old Chinese fir (Cunninghamia lanceolata), Chinese gugertree (Schima superba) and Masson pine (Pinus massoniana), which were all situated in a typical subtropical forest in southern China. Acid phosphatase activity, urease activity, nitrogen (N) mineralisation, nitrification rate, available phosphorus (P) and microbial biomass carbon (C), soil basal respiration, pH, total organic C, total N, total P and inorganic N concentrations were examined in the rhizosphere and bulk soils. Results indicated that total organic C, total N, total P, soil basal respiration, net N mineralisation, nitrification rate, urease activity and acid phosphatase activity significantly increased in the rhizosphere compared with bulk soil. This led to higher levels of available P, NH4 +-N and NO3 --N concentrations in the rhizosphere soils. The magnitude of rhizosphere effects on N and P transformations were mostly greater in the Chinese fir plantation followed by the Chinese gugertree and Masson pine plantations. These findings implied that the three species had different capacities in terms of acquiring nutrients.

Particle-size fractions-dependent extracellular enzyme activity in sediments and implications for resource allocation in a subtropical mangrove ecosystem

The distribution of extracellular enzyme activities in particle-size fractions of sediments was investigated in a subtropical mangrove ecosystem. Five enzymes involved in carbon (C), nitrogen (N), and phosphorus (P) cycling were analyzed in the sand, silt, and clay of sediments. Among these fractions, the highest activities of phenol oxidase (PHO), β-D glucosidase (GLU), and N-acetyl-glucosimin...

The chemical conditions of the rhizosphere are known to considerably differ from those of the bulk soil, as a consequence of a range of processes that are induced either directly by the activity of plant roots or by the activity of rhizosphere microflora. Plant species have involved various adaptive strategies to acquire P from soil pools. Therefore, the objective of this research was to evalua...

Effects of season and soil conditions on the mycorrhizal status and colonization of seven grass species. Mahmood Ghorbani*, Jalil Khara and Nasser Abbaspour

In this study seven plant species were collected from the forest of Arasbaran located in the northwest of Iran. Sampling was conducted in May and August and roots were used for calculating vesicular arbuscular mycorrhizal colonization percentage during the same period. Fine roots were separated, washed and put in FAA solution as a fixative. Through the time, root colonization of all plant speci...

Vesicular-arbuscular mycorrhizal symbioses in some plants and their relationship with soil factors and seasons. Mahmood Ghorbani*, Jalil Khara and Nasser Abbaspour

Mycorrhizal association in seven plants grown in Arasbaran forest located in the north west of Iran was investigated. The soil samples were collected from the plants rhizosphere. Physico-chemical properties of rhizosphere soils like soil texture, pH, EC and some extractable nutrients such as N, P and K were recorded. The number of spores in rhizosphere and percentage of root mycorrhizal coloniz...

Rhizosphere is a micro zone with profoundly different microbiological and chemical properties compared to the bulk soil, where availability and fractionation of zinc (Zn) may also vary from the bulk soil. This greenhouse research was performed to study the available Zn and its fractions in the bean rhizosphere and bulk soils of 10 calcareous soils using rhizobox. Total organic carbon (TOC), dis...
